Jail (1907) as a symbol of the innovative ideas in architecture
and social
responsibility of the early citizens of the State of Texas and
Coke County.
Phase One: Exterminate building (completed) Stop water
infiltration from windows (completed)
Repair Foundation
Patch openings around utility pipes
Roof analyzing
Attic inspection
Patching exterior stucco
Plugging pipes no longer in use
Repair areas of damaged concrete
Rebuilding windows, replacing panes, frames, sills Sealing seams
Painting wood
(Crafted in a manner and form consistent with historic
materials)
Phase Two:
Interior Repairs
Flooring on ground floor
Rusting metal or framework
Repairing plaster
Removing carpet (done during exterminating process) Joists
checked for damage
Install impermeable plastic barrier
Relay wood flooring where necessary
Phase Three: Finish carpentry
Cabinets, built-ins, wood valences
Interior repainting using historically appropriate color
Phase Four: Second floor metal work Preserve wall carvings
Repair lock-up system

To accommodate visitors
Build separate structure for handicap-accessible restrooms,
office, storage, workroom
Construct ramp to building following ADA guidelines
Path to separate structure
Ready for another 100 years
